Literature Text

For you mothers who cry,
for you fathers that weep,
may your Angels be resting,
deep in a dreamless sleep.
With no memory of the suffering,
with no thought of the pain,
just gentle waves on eternal sands,
and healing comes down like rain.
Wither by their hand or another's,
I pray that the sleep is deep,
that their pain does ease...
for the Shepard shall lead the sheep.
But what about you?
You and your loss?
Those nights spent lonely,
those nights when you toss.
Sleep does not come easy for you,
thinking, wondering, weeping,
what could I have done differently,
why am I not the one sleeping?
I have a prayer that I like to say,
a prayer just, only, for you....
I pray that your sleep, that it is as
healing as the one who went before you.
You are not alone, there are others,
wives who cry, husbands who stare,
I pray that you find each other,
those others out there.
That you can find them, those others, and know,
that someone else, not just you, does care.
That you aren't the only one loosing their sleep,
that you can find comfort, when your story you share...
Tears aren't meant to be shed all alone,
they're meant to be cleansing, though they don't seem so,
they are meant to be shared with people who care,
so that you can finally find your sleep...and go.
I just felt a need to write this. Be kind with it, the sentiment is laid bare before you.

And I also pray that your tears are dried by one who cries with you. Take comfort. You are not alone.

This was very sweet and touching, perhaps made more so by the simple and genuine use of language. There was a little too much repetition of the same words, though a little repetition can give real synchronicity to a poem. But I think you were just trying to get your wish across, and you did that well.
